What I’ve Overcome

In their song ‘What I’ve Overcome’, the band Fireflight sing “I’m not what I have done, I’m what I’ve overcome.” It seems so natural for us to define ourselves by our defeats rather than our victories.

While we’re busy focusing on our past failures, God is more interested in helping us overcome them. Psalm 103:12 tells us “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Forgiveness from our past sins is available in Jesus. Maybe we should get our failures dealt with, and then define ourselves by “what we’ve overcome”, giving the glory to Him.

Never heard of Fireflight before, but I loved this song. Thanks for sharing it. What a great reminder that we are not to look to the past, but to press on toward the high calling of Christ. Enjoyed your blog.
