In recent months I participated in Rachael Harrie’s Writing Platform Building Campaign. One of the interesting aspects of this campaign was the writing challenges. There were three challenges which people took part in.
The resulting work from these challenges has been assembled by Katharina Gerlach into a book – “Campaigner Challenges 2011”. All proceeds from the sale of this book go to Harry Moseley’s charity “Help Harry Help Others”. This great cause supports cancer research and is in honour of a boy who passed away at the age of eleven.
Cancer research is a cause that has come to mean more to me recently. Not only did my own father have a minor skin cancer removed this year, but a family from my church are currently dealing with the fact that their first-born son Leo (just one year old) has a cancerous tumour in his stomach. He is a very brave little boy and his parents are incredible.
The book includes 176 flash fiction short stories, including one written by me. Ironically, the subject of my story was cancer research, although I didn’t realise the significance of this at the time.
