Book Review – Miss Perengrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine, #1)Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a very original story. On the surface it looks like “vintage X-Men” but it was so much more than that. While many of the characters in this book have unusual abilities, it wouldn’t be quite right to call them superheros, as they are not actively trying to be heros. There were a lot of great speculative elements here but to say too much would be to offer spoilers. Suffice it to say this was a great speculative novel.

The vintage photographs were a great addition. They really enhanced the experience, but the story itself didn’t rely on this as such.

I’ll definitely read any further books that might follow this one.
