Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Trailer Arrives

I don’t envy the BBC, in the day and age we’re living in. For months, people have been making their own fan-made trailer for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special – some of them very good. We live in an age where TV producers now have to compete with very able fans efforts. I wonder if they felt daunted by this? If anything, I think it has urged those involved to push the envelope further.

Early this morning (Australian time) the official trailer was released and I think it was pretty cool. If you look carefully you can spot all the previous incarnations of The Doctor (though I can’t find the second Doctor for the life of me). I think I’m actually missing quite a lot, watching a low-quality version because my internet speed is currently throttled back, but there are easter eggs galore.

DoctorWho.TV have posted 11 things they love about the trailer.

There seems to be a lot of speculation about Clara’s reflection in the glass ball. Fans are divided between saying it is Sarah Jane Smith (who was holding the ball before Clara) and Susn Foreman – The Doctor’s granddaughter. Personally, I’d love an appearance by Susan to tie things back to the very beginning.

The eleventh Doctor’s voice-over suggests that he is going to have to face up to a dark moment from his past (which will clearly involve the mysterious character played by John Hurt).

All this just makes us very excited for what is to come.
