Jeff Goins begins his book ‘You are A Writer’ by offering inspiration and motivatin to stop waiting to be picked, but to step up and claim your title as writer. He suggest that rather than waiting, you should be writing. The author presents something of a model that will help writers to build their platform and attrack the attention of publishers.
As the book progresses, it moves out of the motivational space and focuses more and more on practicality. In these later sections, the author focuses on subjects such as platform building, branding, pitching magazines, and more. At each step, the author shares stories from his own experiences.
This book is quite short. Jeff Goins makes his point and then stops, rather than bulking it out with fluff. The lessons in this book seem slightly skewed toward writers of non-fiction, but these lessons can be equally applied to the fiction writer without too miuch of a stretch.
I recommend this book to writers, even if for no other reason than the motivation and inspiration to be gained from it.
